Embroiderer and folk artist (1891 - 1972)

Julia Warhola, Andy's mother, emigrated from what is now Slovakia and created intricate, repetitive folk embroideries, crocheted doilies, and pattern-based decorative objects throughout Warhol's childhood. She also collaborated with him, hand-lettering texts and adding decorative elements to his early commercial work in the 1950s.
