Paul Renner was a German type designer best known for creating the geometric sans-serif typeface Futura in 1927, and an advocate of modernist design principles. Tschichold took up a teaching post in Munich at Renner's behest, and both were later denounced by the Nazis as 'cultural Bolshevists' for their progressive typographic work .
